South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced government plans to significantly increase investment in the country’s infrastructure. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

He noted that infrastructure development is necessary for efficient service delivery and economic growth.

The President also recognised that deferred or discontinued infrastructure projects have a negative impact on the availability of services to the public. To address this issue, the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) has started identifying deferred and abandoned projects.

President Ramaphosa also stressed the importance of effective planning and prioritisation of infrastructure projects. As part of the reform, multi-year budgeting will be introduced, as well as expedited permitting and approval processes.

The reform is part of the National Infrastructure Plan 2050 (NIP 2050).
