The Museums Commission and the Saudi Arabian Authority for the Care of People with Disabilities have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at creating an inclusive environment in the kingdom’s cultural institutions. This is reported by
Arab News.

Thus, the Saudi authorities want to expand the rights of people with disabilities and their participation in society. In particular, it is planned to make changes to the infrastructure of museums, create a support service for such people and specially designated areas in cultural institutions.

“We strive to ensure full accessibility in museums and train staff to interact with this category of citizens, including teaching guides sign language to accompany visitors with hearing impairments,” explained APD Director General Hisham Al-Haidary.

He said museums will collect data on visitors with disabilities through surveys and analyse their feedback on social media to make institutions even more inclusive going forward.
