In December 2024, the third international stream of the “Rule of 5 Meetings” mentoring programme was launched. The project is aimed at developing the personal and career potential of students and graduates in the social and humanities through the transfer of experience from a mentor to a mentee.
Irakli Bolkvadze, Director of the Department of Youth Work at RSUH, PhD in Economics, told TV BRICS that the programme helps young professionals to establish professional connections, exchange knowledge and experience with professionals in their field, develop leadership skills, learn new skills, and take part in real projects. The initiative involves five meetings between a mentor and his or her mentee, during which the participants get acquainted, discuss their professional interests, review the results of their work and formulate a plan for further development.
This year the project has acquired an international status: mentors from BRICS countries and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) were involved in the work. Among the experts are Mihran Shahzadeyan, Chairman of the Board of the Armenian Association of Political Scientists, Kairzhan Abdykhalykov, Chairman of the Almaty Azamattyq Alliance (Kazakhstan), Rodolfo Laterza, President of the Brazilian Association of Police Delegados, Rasigan Maharajh, member of the South African Academy of Sciences, Founding Chief Director of the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation at Tshwane University of Technology, Chairman of the South African branch of the Millennium Project, and others. As such, programme participants not only have the opportunity to develop professional skills, but also to practice English, Spanish, and Portuguese with native speakers.
“The key principle of mentoring to unlock potentials centres on effective communication. Listening with empathy assists and helping each other articulate what each other seeks to achieve is crucial. Establishing a timeline and ensuring that the ‘five meetings’ coincide with critical stage-gates in the research projects/activities would also form an important practical principle,” Rasigan Maharajh told TV BRICS in an exclusive commentary.
The organisers are looking for students and graduates from universities in Russia, CIS and BRICS countries who want to gain experience in international cooperation and professional networking. To apply, you need to fill out a form on the website. The third stream of the programme will run until March 2025.
The organisers of the “Rule of 5 Meetings” project are the Centre for the Development of Humanitarian Technologies “NEW ERA” together with the Centre “Diplomacy of Knowledge” of the Russian State University of Humanities, a partner of TV BRICS.
