India will open Noida International Airport in the spring of 2025. According to the authorities, it will be the fourth largest in Asia. This is reported by
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on social media that the airport’s operation will improve the transport situation in the National Capital Region and the state of Uttar Pradesh. He said that the government is taking necessary steps to ensure smooth functioning of high quality infrastructure.
The test flight from Delhi, which arrived at Noida International Airport with representatives of air transport authorities and technical experts, was welcomed with a ceremonial water cannon salute. Technical data on all phases of the flight was also collected to ensure the safety and efficiency of the new air harbour.
During the test, the aircraft was in the air for 15 minutes, landed on a 3.9 kilometre-long runway and then took to the air again after a brief stop. Testing will continue until mid-December and the first commercial flight is expected to take place as early as April 2025.
Currently, about 85 per cent of the airport’s construction work has been completed. Instrument landing (instrument landing) systems, which improve aircraft visibility in fog conditions, were installed and tested in October. Work remains to be completed to finish the roof and install equipment in the terminal building. The 38 metre air traffic control tower is already operational.
Once opened, the airport will serve 65 flights a day, including 62 domestic, two international and one cargo flight. About 12 million passengers a year are expected to visit the air harbour.
