The BRICS’ representativeness, attractiveness and influence in the world continue to grow, turning the association into a significant platform for strengthening the unity and interaction of the countries of the Global South. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, according to
CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to him, the BRICS cooperation mechanism emerged as a result of the historical process of collective growth of emerging markets and countries. The diplomat added that for almost two decades of its existence, the group has come to represent almost half of the world’s population, over 30 per cent of global GDP and more than 50 per cent of global economic growth.
“China warmly welcomes the new member of the ‘BRICS family’. The BRICS cooperation mechanism owes its birth to the historical trend of the collective rise of emerging markets and developing countries, which is in line with the expectations of the international community […] to promote common development and improve global governance”

The representative of the Foreign Ministry also noted that China warmly welcomes Indonesia as a full member of the association. He expressed the willingness of the Chinese leadership to deepen ties with the republic. “Indonesia, as a major developing country and an important force among the states of the global South, highly appreciates the spirit of BRICS and actively participates in cooperation in the BRICS+ format,” Guo Jiakun said, adding that the republic’s accession meets the common interests of the group’s countries.
The fact that Indonesia joined the BRICS as a full member was previously announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, which chairs the association in 2025. At that time, the Chinese Foreign Ministry noted that Indonesia would make a significant contribution to the development of BRICS.
