Uganda’s accession to BRICS as a partner state gives this East African country an opportunity to deepen ties with some of the world’s largest emerging markets and accelerate its own growth. This was stated by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation John Mulimba in an interview with
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

He emphasised that all BRICS members have significant industrial potential.

“BRICS offers a significant opportunity to learn from their technological advances and innovations, including the use of information and communication technology as a tool for societal transformation”

According to the minister, Uganda represents an attractive investment destination for the grouping states. In particular, the republic offers energy and mineral resources which are in high demand among BRICS members. Mulimba also noted that Uganda’s accession to the association’s work will provide new avenues for financing.

Uganda became a BRICS partner state on 1 January. Along with the republic, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan have been granted this status. The final list of partners will soon be published by Brazil, which chairs the group in 2025.
