In addition to pig farms, an export licence has also been granted to a poultry processing facility located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, according to a statement published on the Brazilian government’s official
website.

Previously, Peru only imported pork from the state of Acre, but with the new licences, products will also come from the states of Goias, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Parana, Sao Paulo, and others.

These changes contribute to a significant expansion of Brazil’s presence in the Peruvian market. In 2024, the country plans to export US$755 million worth of agricultural products to Peru, including soybeans, fruits, dairy products, and meat. It is worth noting that Brazil has already exported more than US$141 million worth of meat to the Latin American country in 2023.

Peru’s production exceeds 220,000 tonnes per year and the country imports 14,800 tonnes of protein in 2023, mainly from Chile (57 per cent of the total), Brazil (12 per cent of the total), and other countries.

An important factor in the success of the project is the joint work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, which facilitated the granting of licences to Brazilian companies. The expansion of exports will open new opportunities for growth in Brazilian agribusiness and production.
