Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, has reported a significant increase in the number of air travellers in the country. According to his data, the number of people travelling by air has increased by 20 million in the last two years. More than 118.3 million passengers travelled by air in 2024, up from 97.7 million in 2022.
National air traffic also showed a positive trend, with 93.4 million passengers travelling in 2024, up 2.1 per cent from 2023. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
Tourism Minister Celso Sabino said that this progress was possible thanks to the active investment of President Lula da Silva’s government in modernising infrastructure and promoting Brazil as a global tourist destination.
Statistics also show an increase in domestic demand for air travel, with a 5 per cent increase in 2024 compared to 2023, while supply grew by 3.6 per cent. In December 2024, domestic demand was 7.6 per cent higher than in the same period last year, while supply increased by 5.5 per cent.
Total passenger traffic for the year grew by 5 per cent and international traffic, including passenger and cargo flights, reached record levels. In 2024, 24.9 million international passengers were carried and 891,600 tonnes of cargo were handled – the best results since January 2000.
Earlier state’s Ministry of Tourism announced that Brazil expects 148.3 billion reals (US$24 billion) into the country’s economy this summer.
