The Chinese government has committed to creating a Global South Research Centre to facilitate greater stakeholder engagement in public policy discussions. This announcement followed a meeting between Ahmed Shide, Ethiopian Finance Minister and Lu Hao, President of the Development Research Centre of the State Council of China.

Ethiopian Finance Minister Ahmed Shide emphasised the importance of the centre for global development, noting that Ethiopia has significantly benefited from China’s growth. He cited China’s substantial financial and engineering contributions to infrastructure, manufacturing, and other development initiatives across Africa.
Shide praised China’s economic partnership with Ethiopia and Africa more broadly, describing it as a key driver of Ethiopia’s development.
