A total of 52 students in Zimbabwe excelling in Chinese language studies have been awarded scholarships through the China-Zimbabwe Friendship Scholarship programme. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
The scholarship, initiated by the Chinese Embassy in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe (CIUZ), aims to provide financial support to Zimbabwean students pursuing Chinese language education. Recipients were selected from the CIUZ, its affiliated schools, and other Chinese language teaching centres across the country.
Simelisizwe Sibanda, Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology, commended the programme for aligning with Zimbabwe’s inclusive education policies.
The scholarship not only recognises academic excellence but also fosters cultural exchange and strengthens the cooperative relationship between Zimbabwe and China, the minister claimed.
Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding emphasised the transformative potential of language learning in building cultural bridges and unlocking global opportunities.
The event also included symbolic moments celebrating Chinese culture, such as a student ringing a replica of an ancient Chinese chime bell, further highlighting the rich cultural exchange underpinning the scholarship programme.
This ceremony marked another step in fostering educational collaboration and deepening the friendship between Zimbabwe and China, as reported by the source.
