Work on the world’s first transnational cable car, which will connect the city of Blagoveshensk in Russia with the city of Heihe in China, is underway, according to
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the governor of Russia’s Amur province, Vasily Orlov, the project is already 40 per cent complete. The builders are currently working on the installation of the main equipment inside the Russian terminal, a key infrastructure for this innovative transport system.

The cable car will have two 976-metre lines and cabins with a capacity of 110 people, which will cross the Amur River in just a few minutes. The system is expected to carry up to 2.5 million passengers per year, with a maximum flow of 457 people per hour.

The Russian terminal will cover 26,000 square metres and will offer facilities such as a border crossing, shops, catering areas and commercial space, while the Chinese terminal will include a hotel, a large car park, and meeting areas.

This project, which is part of the bilateral agreements between Moscow and Beijing, aims to strengthen economic and social ties between the two countries. In addition to boosting tourism, it will contribute to the commercial development of the region, consolidating trade, and cooperation between Russia and China.
