Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed support the joint bid of Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi to host the 2031 Pan American Games, as reported by
Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

Lula noted that much of the necessary infrastructure is already in place and guaranteed that the federal government will provide financial and logistical support for the sporting event.

The mayors of the two cities are confident of victory and emphasised that hosting the games will lead to significant improvements in local infrastructure. Among the planned projects is the construction of a third metro line connecting the two cities.

The move not only demonstrates the country’s ability to organise major international competitions, but also highlights the importance Brazil attaches to sport as a tool for integration, social transformation and strengthening regional ties.
