Zimbabwe emphasises importance of adding value to country’s diamonds to boost export income

Constantino Chiwenga, Vice President of Zimbabwe, has emphasised the importance of adding value to the country’s diamonds to increase export earnings from the commodity. 


He said the diamond industry was facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. This is reported by

The Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development Polite Kambamura and Manicaland Public Policy Minister for Provincial Affairs and Decentralisation Mishek Mugadza noted the support given to the mining sector. 


“These facilities demonstrate a commitment to excellence in processing and refining diamond production showing the emmense potential within the mining sector as directed by President Mnangagwa,” said Kambamura.


Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Misheck Mugadza expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa for his tireless support for the development of the mining sector. He noted that the task Zimbabwe faces is to ensure that the country capitalises on its natural resources and contributes to the growth of the Gross Domestic Product.


Zimbabwe’s mining sector is an important contributor to the country’s economy, accounting for about 12 per cent of its GDP and 80 per cent of its export earnings.
