This partnership marks a new step in reinforcing ASEAN’s collective vision while showcasing the strength of regional cooperation

Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to support Malaysia in its role as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2025. The pledge was made by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during a private meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur. This is reported by
Vietnam News Agency (VNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

President Prabowo, who is set for an official visit to Malaysia on 27 January, made an early appearance to discuss critical matters of mutual interest. These included strengthening trade and investment ties, enhancing border cooperation, and addressing emerging issues.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry underscored the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations, emphasising their robust collaboration across economic and socio-cultural domains.

In 2023, Indonesia was Malaysia’s seventh-largest trading partner globally and ranked third among ASEAN members, with total trade valued at approximately US$24.39 billion, the source claimed.

Malaysia, which officially assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship in January, has adopted the theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability” to guide its leadership. With Indonesia’s support, Malaysia aims to foster regional unity and drive progress on critical issues impacting ASEAN’s member states.
