The Russian Institute of Theatre Arts – GITIS, a partner of TV BRICS, has presented a new issue of the “Theatre Magazine”, in which special attention is paid to theatre for children.

This issue raises issues relevant to the contemporary children’s stage, including the theme of clip thinking. The existence of this phenomenon, as well as its impact on children’s perception of theatre, are issues that directors and theorists discuss in interviews and articles.

“Without trying to embrace the vastness and write a treatise on children’s theatre, we focused on today and tried to formulate the thoughts that theatre for children is giving birth to these days. Does it try to take into account the notorious clip mentality (and does it exist?), should it educate and elevate its audience, is it compatible with serials and gadgets and does it not seem like a vinyl player against their backdrop?,” Ekaterina Danilova, Editor-in-Chief of “Theatre Magazine” stated.

Readers will also find a selection of vivid reviews of theatre premieres, including “Warm Bread” by the Ryazan Puppet Theatre, “A Hero of Our Time” by the Ekaterinburg Young Spectators’ Theatre, “My Addiction to Dickens, or Childhood in an Overturned World” by the Maly Puppet Theatre and other performances. In a special section the authors presented articles about famous directors working with children’s audiences.

The editors have not neglected the premieres for adult theatregoers, including reviews of the plays, as well as discussions of the season’s versions of Hamlet. The second part of Vidas Siliunas’ historical essay “The Golden Age and the Spiritual Life of Spain” can also be found in the magazine.

The theatre comic book, which has become an integral part of the magazine, is dedicated in this issue to the anniversary of the Soviet and Russian theatre and cinema actress Alisa Freindlich. It is based on her biography and interviews from different years, and on the cover of the issue is Freindlikh as the Kid from the play “Junior and Carlson” (Lensovet Theatre, 1969).

To truly immerse yourself in the atmosphere of children’s theatre, the editorial staff has prepared a stickerpack with the heroes of the performances presented on the pages of the issue.
