China has set a major milestone in biotechnology by launching ISO8472-1, the world’s first global standard specifically designed for managing stem cell data, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Zoology. This newly established international standard is expected to advance the accuracy, security, and accessibility of stem cell data, enabling better data sharing and accelerating progress in stem cell research globally.

The international standard ISO8472-1, developed in collaboration with experts from several nations, addresses a long-standing gap in stem cell data management. By providing a systematic framework, it promotes interoperability across databases, data management platforms, and web interfaces used in stem cell research, effectively unifying data practices on a global scale. This is reported by
CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS.

Qiao Gexia, Director of the Institute of Zoology, emphasised that ISO8472-1 will not only enhance research quality and data handling efficiency but also lay the groundwork for future advancements in global stem cell standards. As the biotechnology sector continues to grow, the need for regulated and consistent stem cell data handling has become essential for innovations in medical and scientific fields.

This standard is anticipated to streamline stem cell research processes by aligning practices internationally and resolving the fragmentation in data management approaches.
